Senator Lonnie Paxton is a fifth-generation Oklahoman, born in Chickasha and raised on his family’s farm in Tuttle. Senator Paxton’s roots run deep in his district as a businessman, entrepreneur, volunteer firefighter, farmer and rancher.
First elected in 2016, Senator Paxton has been a vocal advocate for his constituents, focusing on issues such as economic development, education and public safety. He has leaned on his background in business and civic experience to shape his policy positions in the state Senate to benefit the state.
Before his service in the Senate, Senator Paxton served first as a city council member in Tuttle, and later as mayor, where he oversaw large projects and helped revitalize the community.
Senator Paxton has also operated an insurance agency in downtown Tuttle for the last 24 years. In addition to his other roles, Sen. Paxton owns and operates a real estate company that has renovated several historically significant buildings in the Tuttle community.
Senator Paxton's leadership roles in various Senate committees throughout his tenure has enabled him to play key roles in major projects, including redistricting and the new budget transparency process, while also promoting policies that benefit the citizens of Oklahoma.
Senator Paxton and his wife, Misti, have been married for over 30 years and have four grown children. Mrs. Paxton taught in the Tuttle Public School district for almost three decades before retiring. They are members of Tuttle United Methodist Church.
He represents Senate District 23, which includes portions of Grady and Canadian counties. Sen. Paxton’s focus while in the Legislature has been to increase government transparency, diversify the economy, create good-paying jobs, support public education, eliminate waste and duplicity, and govern effectively.
In July 2024, The Senate Republican Caucus selected Senator Paxton as the Senate Pro Tempore designee.
