Born and raised in Ada, Oklahoma, Greg McCortney is a 3rd generation Oklahoman. He was elected to the Senate in 2016 and represents Garvin, McClain, Pontotoc, Murray and Hughes counties.
In 2021, McCortney was appointed Majority Floor Leader, the second-highest leadership position in the Senate. As Majority Floor Leader, he serves as an ex-officio member of all committees along with the President Pro Tempore. Recently, he was also appointed to serve on the Joint Committee on State-Tribal Relations.
He previously served as chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.
McCortney holds a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma City University and a master's of divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary.
Prior to his election to the Senate, McCortney was a city councilman in Ada, and served two terms as mayor. He is the former chairman of the Ada Chamber of Commerce and a member of Leadership Oklahoma Class XXVIII.
McCortney resides in Ada with his wife, Ashley, and their children, Addison, Reagan and Carl. The McCortney family attends Trinity Baptist Church in Ada.
