Monday, February 25

• The Senate met Monday and approved the following measures:

-SB 1468 by Sen. Mike Schulz, reduces the minimum age for correctional officers and guards from 21 to 20.

-SB 1550 by Sen. Charles Laster, modifies and adds requirements for certain reports to the Employment Security Commission and the New Hire registry relating to certain performance of labor or services.

-SB 1178 by Sen. Bill Brown, modifies language relating to the Oklahoma Vessel and Motor Registration Act.

Monday, February 18

• With attention focused on committee activity, the Senate met briefly before adjourning to continue committee work.

• Several measures were approved by Senate committees Monday.

-SB 1875 by Sen. David Myers, prohibits smoking inside any non-residential building, removing the exemptions for bars, hotels, motels and private offices, as well as separate roomsand Armed Forces exemptions.

-SB 1010 by Sen. Mike Morgan, modifies various provisions relating to public accountants.

Monday, February 11

• With attention focused on committee activity, the Senate approved one resolution on Monday

-SR 5 by Sen. Debbe Leftwich, D-Oklahoma City, congratulates 2007 Jim Thorpe Award Winner Antoine Cason of the University of Arizona.

• Several measures were approved by Senate committees Monday.

-SB 1694 by Sen. Sean Burrage, directs the State Department of Education to encourage school boards and districts to develop mentorship programs aimed at reducing drop-out rates.

Monday, February 4

• Monday, February 4, marked the first day of the 2008 legislative session, with President Pro-Tempore Mike Morgan presiding.

• Following the session, members of the Senate reconvened in the House for a joint session which featured Governor Brad Henry’s State of the State address.

• Senate committees took no action on Monday.

• House committees took no action on Monday.
