Stephens issues statement regarding presidential election process

State Sen. Blake “Cowboy” Stephens, R-Tahlequah, issued the following statement regarding the 2020 presidential election process.

“While every American has the right to peacefully protest, when those protests turn violent, it is never okay. I strongly condemn the violence that took place at our nation’s Capitol last week.

“Even though I support President Trump – this is not about Trump or Biden – it’s about doing what is right. Some states circumvented their election rules and regulations put in place by their state legislatures, and this is not a fair process. I signed onto a letter with my colleagues that was addressed to members of the U.S. Congress calling on them to reject those states’ electoral votes and do what is needed to determine a fair election. Our country needs to be protected and the rights of the people need to be upheld in this process.

“I stand for what I believe is right. This is not about being republican, and this is not about Trump. This is about doing what is right. Those electoral votes need to be counted fairly, and we need to give the process an opportunity to work itself out.”
