Sen. Stanley earns perfect score for pro-jobs, economic development votes

Sen. Brenda Stanley said she was gratified to be recognized by the Research Institute for Economic Development (RIED) for her perfect score in support of legislation to grow Oklahoma’s economy and create more jobs.  The organization recently released its report identifying priority legislation from the 2021 legislative session and scoring legislators for their support of pro-business measures.  Stanley, R-Midwest City, was one of just 22 members in the Legislature to receive a score of 100.

“For our communities, counties and state to thrive and grow, we must prioritize legislation and public policy that supports our existing Oklahoma businesses as well as emerging technologies and businesses.  We’ve passed significant legislation supporting the aerospace industry this session, something that’s particularly important to Senate District 42,” Stanley said. “Supporting the economy and helping create jobs will create a more prosperous future for individuals, families, and for our entire state.”

RIED identified 19 key pieces of legislation in its annual report, including universal licensing, a sales tax rebate to incentivize broadband expansion in rural communities and legislation supporting the aerospace industry, among others.  Under the RIED evaluation system, legislators earn points when they support job creation and economic development issues or vote against legislation that is harmful to job creation and economic development.  A score of 70 and above represents a passing grade while 69 and below represents a failing grade.

“In order for a small state like Oklahoma to effectively compete with Texas and other regional states, we simply must offer a better economic environment and having a pro-business Legislature is an integral part of the equation,” said Greg Love, RIED board chairman.  “I commend all legislators who rated a perfect and or passing score. Their actions represent a very important component of Oklahoma’s steady rise as a true economic development destination.”
