Sen. Stanley appointed to help lead Veterans Committee

State Sen. Brenda Stanley, R-Midwest City, has been chosen to serve as vice chair of the Senate Veterans and Military Affairs Committee for the next two years.  Stanley represents Senate District 42 in the Legislature, which includes Tinker Air Force Base.  Stanley was named to the post by Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City.

“I am deeply honored to be given this responsibility, particularly because of the impact the work of this committee has on Senate District 42.  Tinker is essential to our national security, but it is also one of our state’s and this district’s largest employers,” Stanley said.  “As vice chair of Veterans and Military Affairs, I’ll have an even larger role in the consideration of legislation that directly impacts individuals I serve in the Senate.”

A life-long professional educator, Stanley will also continue her service on the Senate Education Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.  She’ll also continue to serve on the Senate Retirement and Insurance Committee.

“Education has also been a top priority for me in the Legislature.  We’ve made historic investments and approved two teacher pay raises during my tenure,” Stanley said.  “Likewise, we were able to enact a much-needed cost-of-living increase for state retirees that took effect last July.  Work done through Retirement and Insurance to reform and strengthen our retirement systems helped paved the way for the COLA.”

Lawmakers will gather at the Capitol on Jan. 5 for an organizational day ahead of the formal start of the 2021 legislative session that begins on Feb. 1.
