Sen. McCortney to continue as majority caucus vice chair

State Sen. Greg McCortney will continue in his role as majority caucus vice chair for the next two years.  Leadership positions for the 58th Legislature were officially announced Tuesday during the Senate’s organizational meeting at the state Capitol.  As vice chair, McCortney will assist the chair in setting agendas and conducting caucus meetings on key issues during the legislative session and throughout the year.

“I’m honored to be able to continue in this leadership role, helping keep our members informed about important legislation and events on the state and national level that directly impact our citizens,” said McCortney, R-Ada. “I’m excited to work with my fellow members as we focus on the issues that will help move our state forward.”

McCortney was previously tapped to continue his service as chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services for the 2021 and 2022 legislative sessions. In addition, McCortney also holds seats on the Appropriations Subcommittee for Health and Human Services, and the Committees for Finance, Rules and Business, Commerce and Tourism.

“I’ve stated before that this is going to be a challenging session.  The pandemic will continue to impact us in multiple ways in terms of public health, policy and the state budget,” McCortney said.  “But our members have come here to serve their constituents and work together to find solutions to those challenges.  As caucus vice chair, I will be able to help facilitate that process.  I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
