Sen. Daniels named to leadership post, receives new committee assignments

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Julie Daniels has been appointed assistant majority floor leader for the 59th Legislature, giving her an enhanced role in the daily operations of the upper chamber.

Daniels, R-Bartlesville, along with Assistant Majority Floor Leader Lonnie Paxton, R-Tuttle, will assist Senate Majority Floor Leader Greg McCortney, R-Ada, in assigning bills to the various committees, and will also help determine the daily agenda of bills available to be considered by the full Senate.  As assistant leader, Daniels will also help manage the progress and action of the floor throughout the session.

“I’m deeply honored to have been chosen for this leadership position.  With greater responsibilities and input in the day-to-day business of the Senate, I will have an even stronger voice on behalf of the citizens I serve in District 29,” Daniels said.

Daniels has also been named as chair of the Senate Rules Committee, which considers legislation relating to ethics, proposed constitutional amendments and other matters.  She’s also vice chair of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR).  Daniels authored the legislation which created the committee to provide more thorough legislative oversight of executive branch agency rulemaking.

In addition, Daniels will hold seats on the Senate Finance Committee, Education, Judiciary, and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and Judiciary.

“I don’t take these additional responsibilities lightly, but I welcome these new challenges and the opportunity to collaborate with new and returning members to implement policies that will grow and strengthen our families, communities, and state,” Daniels said.
