Sen. Daniels appointed to Senate committees

Sen. Julie Daniels has been named to several key committees for the 2017 and 2018 legislative sessions.

Daniels will serve on the Senate Appropriations Committee; Judiciary; Business Commerce and Tourism; General Government; and the Subcommittee on Human Services.

“I’m pleased to be appointed to my preferred committees.  Business and Commerce allows me to focus on growing job opportunities throughout District 29,” said Daniels, R-Bartlesville.  “I am particularly interested in improving the prospects for small businesses, the backbone of our main street economies.  This committee also considers legislation related to tourism, with which I am familiar as a former state tourism commissioner and past president of Bartlesville Visitors Inc.”

Daniels said her previous experience in local government would serve her well as a member of the Committee on General Government.

“General Government is a natural spot for a former mayor and city council member,” Daniels said.  “This committee has municipal and county government as part of its responsibilities.  Preserving municipal autonomy, monitoring county revenue streams and minimizing state government mandates that drive up the costs of local services are important to keeping government economical.”

Daniels received her law degree from Tulsa University and said she looked forward to her work on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“As one of a handful of state senators with a legal education, I thought it important to serve on the Judiciary Committee,” Daniels said.  “Legislation assigned to Judiciary reads like a law school curriculum.  It also makes sense to serve on this committee and General Government given the relationship of our district courts with county government.”

Daniels said she was also gratified by her appointment to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Services.

“Improving the stability and circumstances of our children and their families is very important to the future of all Oklahomans.  Successful families contribute to the prosperity of our state and lessen the need for taxpayer services,” Daniels said.

Members will return to the Senate for an organizational day on January 3, 2017, and the session will formally begin on February 6.
