Legislation filed to create entrepreneurial minority business hub

Sen. George Young, D-Oklahoma City, has filed Senate Bill 1267, which would encourage the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education to use appropriated money to support minority entrepreneurship within the state.

The regents would be encouraged to financially support business organizations, the creation of business plans or models, accounting, business financing options and other subjects that would assist a minority entrepreneur in Oklahoma. An emphasis would be placed on allocating resources to institutions within the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education that have a high likelihood of servicing minority populations or communities.

“Oklahoma is home to some of the best and brightest young people in the nation,” Young said. “We must continually invest in our students so they are encouraged to plant their roots in our state. An entrepreneurial minority business hub will encourage our higher education system to invest in these students, creating an entrepreneurial economy that will support generations of Oklahomans for years to come.”
