J.J. Dossett takes oath of office; begins four-year term in Senate

State Sen. J.J. Dossett has been sworn in to continue his service on behalf of District 34 in the Oklahoma State Senate.  Dossett was first elected in 2016 in a special election.  A former history teacher and coach, Dossett won re-election to his first full four-year term earlier this month and took his oath of office in a ceremony at the state Capitol on Wednesday.

“I’m thrilled to be back on the job in the State Senate—this is an honor I do not take for granted,” said Dossett, D-Owasso.  “Over the next four years, I want to continue to fight for more resources for public education.  We also need to continue to pass meaningful criminal justice reform and ensure we’re properly funding health and mental health programs for our citizens.”

During this interim, Dossett also held interim studies examining Oklahoma’s high rate of suicide among veterans and another study that looked into vaping. During his first two years in office, Dossett fought for increased funding for Oklahoma schools, championed legislation eliminating unnecessary testing and carried legislation aimed improving public safety throughout the state.

            For the past two years, Dossett has served on the Senate committee on Appropriations; the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education; Appropriations Subcommittee on Finance; Agriculture and Wildlife; Education; and Veterans and Military Affairs.

The Senate will hold a one day organizational meeting on January 8, and the 2019 session will formally get underway on February 4.
