Jerry Alvord sworn in, begins first term in Senate

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sen. Jerry Alvord is officially on the job for Senate District 14 after taking his oath of office Wednesday at the state Capitol. The ceremony was presided over by Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell with the oath administered by Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Richard Darby. Alvord was joined by his wife, Shelly, and other family, friends, and supporters.

“It is truly an honor to get to continue my public service to the good folks of southern Oklahoma in the esteemed Senate,” Alvord said. “I’m looking forward to furthering efforts to stop federal overreach, fight to protect the unborn and our Second Amendment rights, as well as protect our agriculture industry and small businesses.”

The Wilson Republican previously served two terms as a Carter County Commissioner. The Alvords own numerous businesses, including their cow/calf operation on their family ranch. He is a world champion team roper, holds multiple world championships in working cowhorse events, and is a successful horseman, having trained several world champions and top five horses.

Alvord was a member of the State Board of Directors for the Association of County Commissioners, the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association, the Noble Foundation, the Oklahoma Cattleman’s Association, and the Oklahoma Farm Bureau. He is an NRA-certified handgun instructor and a proud graduate of Leadership Ardmore and Leadership Oklahoma. His family attends Crosspoint Fellowship Church, where he serves as an elder and financial counselor.

The Senate will hold a one-day organizational meeting on Jan. 3 to formally elect leadership and adopt rules for the 59th Legislature before convening the 2023 legislative session on Feb. 6.
