Claremore legislator tapped for Senate leadership posts

OKLAHOMA CITY –   State Senator Marty Quinn has been selected to serve as Assistant Majority Floor Whip for the 2019 legislative session.  Quinn was tapped by incoming Senate Majority Whip, Senator Rob Standridge, to serve in the leadership role.   Quinn, R-Claremore, was also recently selected by Senate President Pro Tempore-Designate Greg Treat to serve as the Retirement and Insurance Committee Chair.

“I’m honored to be selected as Assistant Majority Floor Whip and as Chair of the Retirement and Insurance Committee. I’m looking forward serving in these additional roles in legislative leadership,” Quinn said.  “I have been blessed to serve in both the State Senate and the House of Representatives for several years and I’m motivated to continue that service with a vision and direction built on principles and values into the next legislative session.”

The Claremore legislator said he’s ready to get back to work.  In addition to his new responsibilities as Assistant Majority Floor Whip and Retirement and Insurance Committee Chair, he was also appointed this week to serve on the Senate Education and Energy Committees, as well as the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government and Transportation for the upcoming legislative session.

“We are going into a new legislative session and while I’m eager to get started on another productive year and remain optimistic for the future of our state, the reality is, there are many unknown factors that could impact that progress, including the fluctuating price of oil.  It’s always been my priority to continue to seek ways to diversify the state’s economy and ensure efficiency with state tax dollars without obligating the state to unrealistic paths to fund programs,” said Quinn.  “I am dedicated to listening to concerns and have a genuine desire to find resolutions.  We are ready to focus on real solutions that will be beneficial and fruitful for the state.”

Members will return to the Capitol for the first legislative day of the 2019 session on Monday, February 4.
