Burns hosts Haworth High School Southeast Regional Academic Tournament Champions

The Haworth High School Academic Tournament Champion team was hosted by Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard, at the state Capitol before competing at the state contest in El Reno last week.

While at the Capitol, the students joined Burns to tour the newly renovated building, met with Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat, R-Oklahoma City, and Rep. Eddy Dempsey, R-Valliant. The group was also recognized on both the Senate and House floors for their outstanding achievements and commitment to academics.

“It was a pleasure to welcome the Haworth High School Academic Team to the Senate,” Burns said. “Senate District 5 is full of bright and talented students who deserve to have their achievements highlighted. I’m proud of their performance at not only the district contest, but also at state, where 23 students placed in the top 10 across multiple subject areas.”

Winners from Haworth placing in the top 10 included:

  • Jaxon Allen: first, personal finance and second, geography;
  • Reagan Robinson: first, speech;
  • Haylei Huges: second, speech;
  • Robin Magby: second, computer applications and third, personal finance;
  • Emily Farley: third, business math;
  • Macy Tapley: third, speech.

Throughout each legislative session, outstanding groups from across the state are often recognized at the Capitol. For more information on Capitol recognitions, contact: Sen. George Burns at 405-521-5614 or email George.Burns@oksenate.gov
