A native of northeastern Oklahoma, Stratton Taylor was the only student in his 17-member Alluwe high school class to graduate from college. He earned a bachelors degree and a law degree from the University of Tulsa, working his way through school by sacking groceries in Claremore.
During his undergraduate senior year, the 22 year old Taylor entered politics, winning a seat in the State House of Representatives. Four years later he advanced to the State Senate. In unanimous, bipartisan votes in 1995, 1997, 1999, and 2001, he was elected Senate President Pro Tempore, the upper chamber's highest position. Taylor is married to former state representative Carolyn Thompson. They reside in Claremore with their two children. He is the founding member of the law firm Taylor, Burrage, Singhal, Mallett and Downs.
