Brogdon: Oklahoma has a Spending Problem

Sen. Randy Brogdons says Oklahoma has a spending problem. In five of the last ten years Oklahoma has failed meet proposed spending levels. “If you can’t pay your bills half of the time, you are spending too much money,” said Brogdon, R-Owasso.

The Senate passed a budget on Friday that spent $1 Billion more than was collected in revenue. Brogdon voted against the General Appropriations stating, “Passing a budget and leaving a $1 Billion hole is irresponsible.” He went to say that “Governor Henry is responsible for the budget deficit due to his over spending and raiding the emergency rainy day fund.”

A spending limitation law is the answer according to the Senator. “Allowing Government to grow three or four times faster than the economy is unsustainable as we have found out over and over again,” Brogdon said.

“A good budget is a balanced budget and one based on priorities not wishful thinking” Brogdon said. “We should never spend more money than is collected in revenue.”
