Deevers Calls for Urgent Action on Senate Bill 426

OKLAHOMA CITY — Within the last week, 49 U.S. Senators signed a letter urging President Joe Biden to reconsider the expansion of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) pandemic authority, a move that Sen. Dusty Deevers, R-Elgin, applauds. Deevers advocates for the prompt scheduling of Oklahoma Senate Bill 426, highlighting the necessity of legislative vigilance and state sovereignty. This rare alignment with the national delegation has been a pleasant surprise for many Oklahomans, who typically hold modest expectations for their national representatives.

Some have asserted that due to the 10th and 14th amendments and the due process clause in Article 2 Section 7 of the Oklahoma Constitution, SB426 is unnecessary. While it is true that these provisions should be sufficient to protect against the usurpation of state sovereignty by global bodies, it is also true that preemptive and pointed protections are a direct means of defense for the citizens of Oklahoma.

If the political will of these 49 Republican Senators were sufficient to end Biden’s ploy, no further action would be needed. Sadly, mere will is not enough. Enter SB426. The bill authored by Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard, would preemptively disallow the WHO from possessing any jurisdiction in our State.

“Senate Bill 426 is a declaration of our commitment to protect the unalienable rights of our state from global tyrants, and the bill is supported by many legislative co-authors, county commissioners, and citizens,” Deevers said.

The support for SB426 already includes the 10 Senate co-authors with more joining every day. However, there is a measure of concern on whether the bill will be scheduled on the Senate floor before the end of session which is quickly approaching. The bill, which is critical to the welfare of Oklahomans, requires prompt legislative attention as Biden is poised to act on the WHO agreement later this month.

“I am heartened to see our counterparts in Washington take a firm stance against the overreach of the World Health Organization and other international bodies,” Deevers said. “It is crucial that we maintain our state and national sovereignty, and ensure that any amendments, agreements, or new treaties, particularly those related to global health policy, undergo thorough scrutiny by American legislative bodies and national and state jurisdictions. We cannot afford to repeat past mistakes and must resist any authoritative declarations from international groups. We must not allow the Biden Regime to sign away, to global bodies, our unalienable rights to life, liberty, or property."
